Testimonials: Touching Real Lives
"The business suits we have received have been so wonderful! Our veterans get so excited when they get the opportunity to go pick one out. I have a story that I think you will enjoy. On December 15, 2009, the U.S. VETS Site Director received the following email through the U.S. VETS website:
'I am a homeless veteran and am on the brink of robbing people. This is something that I hope to avoid. Not only because I have a son but because I am only a few classes away from completing a degree. I do not drink or use drugs and just need a place to sleep… my housing situation has changed. Any help would be appreciated.'
"That email was written by Mani M. and soon after writing that email, he entered the Veterans in Progress (VIP) program, on February 8, 2010. Today, he has successfully completed three phases of program requirements and will soon be graduating to the fourth program phase which is permanent housing. He was able to secure full time employment at Goodwill Industries thanks to a brand new suit from Dignity U Wear and Mens Wearhouse. It is amazing how much power can be found in a single suit!! Thank you so much!!" United States Veterans Initiative, Las Vegas, NV
"Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. It is gladly appreciated and welcome. What you have given has been a true blessing and a welcomed delight for many of us that were fortunate to receive these outfits. I am very grateful and much obliged. Thank you very much from a mother and her son." SAFEHOME, Kansas City, KS
"I came to Safehome from KKU med. Center with two broken ribs, a fractured wrist, bruises everywhere and cancer. WOW ! Not to mention most importantly my 3-year old son. My son and I have now graduated the amazing, life changing program, qualified for transitional living and continue therapy, classes, and 110% accountability with Safehome . Our change and new life is our only way to thank you all enough!!" Theresa & Christian, SAFEHOME, Kansas City, KS
"My favorite Dignity U Wear story is about a high school student. She is a mom and basically on her own. The day after she received her Dignity U Wear box of clothes she was in the office and I commented on how fashionable/Hollywood she looked and she said…it came from the box you gave me yesterday. I had no idea because I don’t open the boxes I only deliver them. I was so impressed and you could tell she felt good about herself. She physically looked good therefore her emotional self was shining through in her self confidence. It was a touching moment."
Susanne Hall, MSW, School Social Worker, Clay District Schools, Florida
“I was so excited to get a beautiful outfit & other things for looking for a job. I feel sure now, that I can get employment, as before, I just did not have what I needed. Thank you so much!”
Melissa, Dress for Success, Austin, TX
Thank you so much to Dignity U Wear for entrusting the Durham Economic Resource Center with the generous donation of women’s pants and jackets. As you know, adult poverty affects our communities on so many different levels from being the source of high crime rates, homelessness, high unemployment rates, and it is reaching our young children in so many negative ways. While all of us are susceptible to hard times, those who are chronically unemployed and hard to employ from all ages are at most risk, and they make up the largest number of clients we serve.
With the generous support of organizations like Dignity U Wear, we will be able to help many of these individuals not only to meet essential daily needs, but to work toward a brighter future.

"Just yesterday, it felt good to give a little 9-year-old girl her box of clothing at school. This is a girl whose clothing never fits or seems appropriate for the weather. She comes to the school clinic several times a week to get a clothing change from our clothes closet of donated clothing. She is a sweet girl who has been through much. Last school year, her mother died of a drug overdose and this girl was the one who found her mother. She now lives with an adult sister and does not really receive the kind of attention a young girl deserves. Your clothing box made this little girl so happy. Wow! New clothing for a change!
"I also delivered a box of clothing to a mother who wanted to open her box in front of me. I am so glad that she did. You would have thought that she had ordered the clothing from a catalog, as everything she pulled out of it delighted her. She pulled out shoes that wonderfully matched a pair of dress pants she owned. She tried the shoes on; they fit! The sweater was her favorite color! Every item of clothing she pulled from the box was as if the person who chose it, knew her and her tastes – right down to the thong underwear! J She was delighted to have new clothes to wear for work as she and her husband have been out of work for a year and now are trying to get caught up on bills. They certainly did not have the money for new clothing. Having new clothing made her feel like a new woman. I wish you and your staff could witness the joy you bring to others. Perhaps you say a prayer over the clothing and ask God to bless the recipient. Thank you for your efforts and all you do to bring joy to others whose lives are not blessed with many material things. May God bless you. Thank you!"
Jean Pease, School Social Worker, Clay County School District
"Here is what happened when we opened your box!!! 'Wow, boxers!!' Susan came to me all exited and said, 'You won't believe what's in that box!!! Boxers.' All of us were very surprised and thrilled because the men like boxers better than briefs!!
"Thank you so much for all you do for us and others. We could not help our homeless women and men look so good if it were not for your agency. God bless you."
Sister Carleen, St. Ann Place, West Palm Beach, FL
“I put in a request for clothes for an 11-year-old boy who lives with his father, who is recovering from cancer surgery. Dignity U Wear was able to provide him with a box full of new clothes. Thank you!
"At the time, however, you did not have shoes, and because I knew how badly he needed the shoes, I resubmitted the request. Of course, as you know, you were ultimately able to help me get him his first pair of new Nikes. When I gave him the shoes he said 'These are the best pair of shoes I have ever had!' I told him who donated the shoes, and he said to please tell them thank you."
Eric Evans, School Social Worker, Duval County School System, FL
“Thanks so much for the generous donation of new clothing to help us to assist our clients. Our clients can always have a sense of pride when they receive donations from you. All the donated clothing is current and in style. My clients proudly wear their new clothing to interviews and school.”
G. Jackson, CEO, Praise Unlimited Homeless Services, Beverly Hills, CA
"One of the programs the Mission offers is our survival skills program, aimed at empowering women to become financially independent. An important element of the program is re-entry into employment. These women live below the poverty line and worry every day about providing the basic needs for their children. Clothing for themselves would be considered out of the question for them. Your organization has allowed them to have the professional clothing they need to interview for employment and start new lives for themselves and their families."
